Grammy and Oscar winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson may take the stand as a prosecution witness against the man accused of murdering her mom, brother and 7-year-old nephew back in 2008.

STORY: Jennifer Hudson: The Trial Begins…

The trial is set to begin today for William Balfour, 30, Hudson’s estranged brother-in-law who is charged with killing members of his ex-wife’s family in a fit of jealous rage.

Prosecutors say Balfour threatened to kill Hudson’s sister, Julia Hudson, and her family in the months before the 2008 murders in Chicago.

According to court documents Balfour said:

“If you leave me, I’m going to kill you. You will be the last. I’ll kill your family first.”

His jealously boiled over when he asked Julia Hudson if she had slept with her new boyfriend after she told him she planned to do it on her birthday on Oct. 24, 2008. Balfour lost it, threatening again to “kill your family first, then kill you,” according to court documents.

A day after celebrating her birthday, Julia saw Balfour standing outside her bedroom window and let him inside and later that day, Julia and Jennifer’s mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, and brother Jason Hudson, 29, were found dead in their home.

The body of Julia’s son, Julian King, 7, was found days later, in a car miles away.

According to the NY Post, Jennifer and her sister have become inseparable since the murders.

A prosecutor is expected to tell jurors today during opening statements at the trial of Balfour that he is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the Oct. 24, 2008, slayings that generated nationwide headlines because of Hudson’s fame.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Hudson family during this tragic time.
