The ode to MCA took place at the Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club, the night it was announced that the Beastie Boy had passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The “We Are Young” group’s tribute to the late hip-hop legend came as something unexpected, but they are no strangers to undertaking the task of rocking out to other artists’ songs.

The night before, the band performed The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and Santana’s hit “Smooth.”
