There’s probably no one on the planet who knows more about music than Questlove, the drummer of The Roots. His musical knowledge is unparalleled. That’s why he’s the perfect man to teach a course on music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Art!

This upcoming spring semester, Questlove will co-teach a class called “Classic Albums.” The class will also be taught by Universal Music Enterprises vice president of A&R Harry Weinger.

So how did this new gig come along? Apparently, it all started when an NPR intern posted a blog reviewing Public Enemy’s iconic It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back album. The intern gave a largely negative and dismissive review, something that bothered Questlove so much, he responded to the post.

Then, Jason King, associate professor of recorded music and head of history and criticism at NYU, reached out to the legendary drummer about teaching a course, and here we are.

The class, which will be worth two credits, will look at what makes an album a classic by looking at some of music’s masterpieces, including Beastie Boys’ Paul’s Boutique, Sly & The Family Stone’s Stand!, Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall and more.

We have to admit, this sounds soooo cool.
