After weeks of speculation, and a number of drafted sketches from top designers hoping to dress the First Lady for the night, Michelle Obama demonstrated her loyalty by pulling a 2008 repeat and donning designer Jason Wu at the Inaugural Ball.

The red dress was a patriotic stunner last night, as Michelle two-stepped to the sounds of Jennifer Hudson singing Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” in the arms of President Barack Obama for their first dance at the Inaugural Ball.

Four years ago, when Michelle danced on that very floor in a Jason Wu dress, she was putting a very little known designer on the map. Now, the First Lady’s go-to is launching collaborations with megastore giant Target, and has built a steady brand since. Last night, he tweeted his emotions as the FLOTUS hit the stage:

The dress, custom made for Michelle, was a ruby confection done in velvet with a chiffon overlay. The First Lady also wore Jimmy Choo shoes and jewelry by Kimberly McDonald.

But none of the stunning pieces made it to MO’s closet, at the end of the Inaugural festivities, the outfit and accompanying accessories went straight to the National Archives.

Michelle looks even better than she did 4 years ago!
