Welcome to Bushwick!

New web series East Willy B uses comedy to paint a realistic, yet hilarious, picture of life in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The series, created by Julia Ahumada Grob and Yamin Segal, follows a Latino sports bar owner named Willie Jr., as he tries to balance business with pleasure, fighting to get his ex fiance Maggie back, while also trying to keep his bar in business. It aims to show viewers what happens when a mainly Hispanic neighborhood begins to change and become a melting pot, welcoming young hipsters and New York City transplants looking for an up-and-coming, affordable neighborhood.

Though the series is still in its infancy, the first webisodes left us wanting more. In episode one, titled “Welcome to Bushwick,” we get a feel for each of the characters. We are introduced to Willie Jr., who appears to run the neighborhood and struggles getting over his ex Maggie, and his cohorts: Sessie, the sassy “light-skinned Latina” bartender; Edgar, the struggling Salvadorian artist; Albert, who owns the rival bar; and countless others!

Episode Two, titled “Operation Strike Team,” focuses in on Willie Jr.’s business and the lengths he will go to outdo his enemy, Albert. It seems poor Willie just can’t catch a break. Maggie is now dating his ex and his bar just isn’t drawing in the young hipsters of Bushwick.

We can’t wait to see what else East Willy B has in store for us. Check it out for yourselves in the videos above and below!
