Get it together, ZARA!

For the second time in two years, Zara has been accused of having unethical labor practices. Back in 2011, workers had to literally be rescued from a Sao Paolo sweatshop that manufactured Zara items and today it seems that the same thing is happening in Argentina. The Government Control Agency in Argentina has discovered immigrant workers, including children, working under unethical and “degrading” labor conditions in a Buenos Aires factory which manufactures items for Zara’s ‘Man’ line.

The workers were apparently forced to work 13 hour work days and on top of that, some of the men and children who work there were also living there. None of them were registered workers with official documentation, and were also living in awful conditions. They were being held against their will and were not allowed to leave without permission.

For now it is being reported that Zara is simply using the factories and they are not actually owned by Zara however they obviously need to do a better job at choosing who they do business with, especially since the brand’s owner, Amancio Ortega, is the world’s third richest man. Shame on you Zara.
