I got fly on Easter. We was kinda spoiled in the projects. My cousins Nee-Nee and Dough and them was kinda spoiled, so every Easter we had the best outfit. Every Easter we had the [new] Jordans. Every year we had the best outfits in the hood where we was from. My best outfit was when them all white Jordans came out with the aqua blue tongue. I caught that that Easter! We had the Levi’s dungaree suits when they had the stone wash. Me and Dough used to come out on niggas! We could wear the same size, so we were switching up on them. Wooooooh!

You just knew, you were sleeping on Easter like, “Easter is about to come up. Niggas plotting for about a month like, “the new Jordans about to come out. I’m going to get the jean suit.” We were just trying to get everything the older niggas had or the dudes that was hustling in the street, with all the new kicks and the new outfits and all that. We like, “Oooooh shit! You ain’t see D?! He got the new Pelle [leather jacket]! Ooooh, we got to get that shit!” Word up, my nigga Deda…he used to have everything coming up man. He’d send you to the sneaker store and tell you to go get two pair of everything he want and go get what you need. Word up! He had all the Pelle’s, shit with the musical notes on them.

Word up, we had some Easters for that ass. The car shows used to pop off on Easter. Everybody would go down [to Midtown Manhattan] to the Jacob Javits Center with their fresh clothes on. All types of chicks were down there. I’m hyped just talking about it. I love Easter from when my momma would hide the eggs with the ten-dollar bills in them and all that.

I’m an Easter fiend, but you know Easter is the resurrection of Christ, let’s not forget that. I’m not that ignorant, ya dig? It’s like; I guess society takes a twist on it. Christmas [is] the birth of Christ, but we use Christmas for getting all the gifts you want. Good grades would get you every gift you seen in Toys R Us. Easter [is] the resurrection of Christ and then it turned into niggas getting fresh. The parents wasn’t no better, they was getting you fresh church clothes so you could go to church before you put on your fresh street clothes. That’s the era I come from. They always had that gray suit with the pink. Gray and pink was national Easter colors, I don’t care what hood you from, gray and pink was national Easter colors in church. Holla at me for real!
