Yo, it’s so good to be here right now and sharing my first blog post with y’all on the website. Shout out to Uncle Russ. A lot of cool things are happening, my new album ‘The Cycle of Love’ is out! I’m so excited that it’s doing extremely well. We’ve been busy promoting the album and traveling all of the globe to Jakarta, Indonesia, New Delhi, India, New Orleans, Chicago. etc. The response has been overwhelming. Man, all these great reviews are flooding in. Thank y’all so much for all the love. It feels so good.

Here’s what is going on in June. I’m performing in the 2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors Awards. This will be the second year in a row that I’ve done it. Last year was with Quest Love and The Roots. This year I’m rocking with Craig Robinson (Darryl from the Office). He has a band called Nasty Delicious that I play with from time to time. We’re the house band for Hip Hop Honors, that’s gonna be crazy!

I’m also going back on the road for a couple of hits with N’Dea Davenport and the Brand New Heavies. That’s gonna be cool,  we’re hitting NY and DC, I’m going to Chicago to hit Ravinia with the Legendary jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis. Ramsey gave me my first jazz gig at the age of 16. So this is gonna be like a reunion to go back and play with him again. It’s gonna be incredible!

Next up is our Apple in-store performance in NY. It’s the new huge location in the upper west side. My band The Maurice Brown Effect will be performing along with Jason Moran. We will be playing songs from ‘The Cycle of Love’. Many people ask me to describe the style of music that I play. In the 60’s there was a big soul jazz movement. Cats like Donald Byrd, Ramsey Lewis, and Herbie Hancock incorporated rhythm & blues, gospel and funk into their sound . What we are doing is bringing elements of R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop into Jazz. You can download ‘Merry go Round’ the 2nd single from from  ‘The Cycle of Love’ here for free!
