Multi faceted entertainer, producer, designer, and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams became part owner of New York based eco textile manufacturer Bionic Yarn alongside Tyson Toussant and Tim Coombs just last year. Since then you could say a Bionic take over has changed the face of ready to wear fashion.

How is Bionic Yarn related to the environment you might ask? Well, Bionic Yarn produces premium yarns and fabrics derived from recycled plastic beverage bottles. Yes you heard me! Recycled plastic bottles. But what’s even cooler than the technology behind it, is the way Pharrell has brought environmentally sustainable fabrics to the forefront of real wearable fashion design. Fashion you actually want to buy, be seen in, and can afford!

From the canvas backpacks at Billionaire Boys Club on West Broadway in Soho, to his collaboration with Moncler last year, Pharrell is allowing you to bring a little green into your world effortlessly.

And now, Bionic Yarn will be revolutionizing denim and boot wear with two new collabs coming out this Spring: Timberland and Top Shop Denim.

First, as part of its Earthkeepers initiative, Timberland has teamed up with Bionic Yarn to release an environmentally sustainable line this spring. The outdoor-wear company will be producing boots made with recycled rubber and PET. Overall they will be presenting over 90 styles, all featuring Bionic Yarn canvas uppers.

In addition, Bionic Yarn and Top Shop have recently launched a three-piece denim collection for Topshop exclusively from their company, which creates highly efficient denim out of the same plastic bottle fibers. And even better, The Bionic Yarn denim pieces, which consist of a denim jacket, pair of jeans and pair of shorts, are actually intended to improve with age, due to the durability of the fibers. The pieces feature classic 70’s style detailing and are already favorites of Pharrell’s, stating, “The coolest thing about Bionic Yarn is that the fabric is actually superior to the average fabric…and the pieces look so good.” The collection ranges in prince from $70 to $100.

Bionic Yarn proves that being environmentally responsible can mean making subtle changes in how you shop. And you don’t have to lose your style while doing so. The days of the stereotypical tree-hugger are gone. Bionic Yarn does all the hard work for you. All you have to do as a consumer is endorse their collabs and create that demand for similar products!
