America’s long national nightmare is over. Carmelo Anthony has finally been traded to the New York Knicks.

We can now all get back to our lives.

I have to say I was pretty shocked at all the attention that has been paid to this particular trade. This trade seemed to go on longer than the Summer of LeBron last year.

During the final hour of this drama I was Tweeting like crazy (some of it was because of the trade and some of it was because I survived the Great Uber Outage of 2011 and finally got the new version of UberSocial on my BlackBerry). Looking back on those Tweets I realize they raised all the questions that needed answering regarding this “mega trade.”

These are my running Tweets (in bold) with commentary.

“If Melo could help a team win a championship the Lakers would have shipped out Bynum two months ago.” Everyone knows the Lakers are desperately trying to ThreePeat this year. Everyone except for the Lakers players, who are not playing with any sense of urgency at all. But that’s another story. For a couple of days there were heavy rumors going around that the Lakers were in the running for Melo and were thinking of trading Andrew Bynum to the Nuggets. If Carmelo was the missing piece to the Lakers championship dreams they would have spared no expense to get him. Here is an interesting stat for all of you Knick fans; The Denver Nuggets have won exactly two playoff series the whole time Melo has been there. Do you really think he is the missing piece to a Knicks Championship? Really?

“Congrats Knick fans! U now have The (sort of) Big Two!” In the era of The Big Three, the Knicks now have two “superstars.” I put superstars in quotes because I’m still not sold on Amare Stoudemire as a bona fide Superstar like LeBron James or Kobe Bryant or even a Tim Duncan. Now, some of you may argue that Chauncey Billups is the third member of the Knicks’ Big Three. That may have been true five years ago but Billups is now approximately 107 years old in NBA years.

“The Nuggets GM should be wearing a ski mask cuz he straight robbed the Knicks!” This may have been a little bit of hyperbole but at first glance it seems like the Knicks gave up way too much. Here are the particulars of the trade: the Nuggets get Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, a first round draft pick, two second round picks and $3 million in cash. The Knicks get Melo, Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman. I want you to look at that and tell me it doesn’t seem one sided to you.

“Seriously, though, it is important to the NBA that the Knicks be relevant again. Plus NY fans are so lovable.” This really is important. David Stern and the NBA have been desperate to have basketball be important in New York again. When was the last time anyone was talking about the Knicks? Exactly. “Does the Melo trade really change the complexion of the Eastern Conference? Hmmmmmmm. . .” This is also a very important question to answer. Because while Melo definitely makes the Knicks a better team, he doesn’t make them a contender. Are these Knicks going to be
