An ambitious (and heavy) new book is yours for pre-order on Amazon: “The History of American Graffiti” by Roger Gastman and Caleb Neelon.

Gastman and Neelon, walking encyclopedias, and artists themselves, may have written the definitive guide to graffiti in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and other American cities.

The pair traces the origins of many different styles of graffiti including “Wild Style”, the most influential style to emerge in American art since Pop Art.

In hundreds of photographs and interviews Gastman and Leelon compile rare images and stories, unlocking secrets never before told.

The book is four years in the making and its publication will coincide with another stellar graffiti milestone in Venice, Italy this June: The American Folk Art Museum’s presentation of American graffiti at the Venice Biennale. Stay tuned.
