Pop sensation Lady Gaga has finally joined the platinum club! “Born This Way” has sold 1.1 million copies in the first week.

“Born This Way” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Selling 1,108,000 copies its first week, Gaga’s album experienced the highest sales week since 50 Cent’s “The Massacre” which dropped in 2005.

With the help of Amazon’s price of .99 cents, “Born This Way” soared in digital sales. Lady Gaga is only the fifth female to reap in over a million sales in the first week since Soundscan began tracking sales back in 1991.

“Born This Way” is only the 17th album to go platinum, proving that Gaga has reached the level of renowned recording artists such as Whitney Houston and Lil Wayne.

Other legendary pop stars who went platinum in a week include Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys back in 2000 and 2001.
