Diddy was the man of the hour at last night’s 24th Annual Rhythm and Soul Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on June 24, 2011 in Beverly Hills, California. The music industry’s best song writers, producers and execs all were on hand to watch Diddy get honored.

Before Diddy took to the stage, DJ Clark Kent reminded the audience of how many hits Diddy has been responsible for, as he tried to squeeze Diddy’s 400 hits into 10 minutes.

Once DJ Clark Kent finished his set, Dr. Dre came on stage and presented Diddy with The ASCAP Founder’s Awards. Diddy walked up to the poduim and humbly accepted his award. Below are a few excepts:

Diddy on Being Happy:

“Yall don’t know how happy I am right now. I don’t really be skipping around being extra happy, but I’m extra extra happy right now and I truly appreciate this. The feeling of being acknowledged by your peers, I feel comfortable and love calling you my family. it’s so many people out there that I grown up with, hung out with, worked in the studio with and who have been by my side to help me with my ups and my downs, yall are my family. Thank y’all so much for this award.”

Diddy on Dr. Dre:

“You have to look up to somebody and somebody has to inspire you and Dr. Dre my whole life he’s been my favorite producer who has inspired me along the way.”

Diddy on Believing In Himself:

“I always get asked did you ever think you would be where you’re at today. Now, because I try to exude an extraordinary amount of confidence I usually say yeah I did, but I don’t say that in a way where I’m trying to be cocky I just believe that in order for my dreams to come true I had to put 100% faith in God and my dreams, to truly believe that I would be here.
Tonight i can honestly say I only wished that i would be here one day it’s something that i’m not going to take for granted. I had a lot of help along the way.”

Diddy on Being Homeless:

“Two of the people that help me chase that dream are here with me tonight, I met them at Howard University, and we became great friends. I can say you truly know who your friends are when you’re at your lowest point. While I was at Howard University I was homeless for a minute, for like two weeks it was rough than a motherfucker. (laughs) It’s cold in DC too, and Howard ain’t the best neighborhood to be homeless in. But my friends let me sleep on their couch and this was during the time when I wasn’t the best house guest in the world. They still let me stay there and years later I was able to return the favor when they moved in with me at my crib in Scarsdale. I just want to say that I love you, Harve Piere and my man Mark Pitts.”
