Once again, another crazy but sad story. We can’t understand why a mother would want to throw away her baby, don’t people know there are other, way better options? Check out this latest story out of Washington, as the Daily Mail reports:
A mother-of-two who is accused of dumping her newborn baby in a hospital trash can ‘hid’ the pregnancy from her boyfriend saying she was bloated by cancer treatment, according to a report.
Jasmine Marie Ritchey, 23, was arrested on Tuesday after her new born boy was found at the bottom of a Washington hospital bin, blue in the face and wrapped in a plastic bag.
Court reports show that after her arrest, Ritchey told police see needed to ‘get her life together’ before having more children, police records show.
The baby is said to be in a stable condition at Tacoma hospital, but Detective Brenda Anderson says it remains to be seen whether the boy will has brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation.
Ritchey – who runs her own photography business specialising in pregnancy portraits – called 911 and told the operator that her water had just broken.
When she arrived at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, she is reported to have told doctors that she had ovarian cancer and was in pain.
After being ordered to take a urine test she went to take a sample in the ladies toilet.
On her third attempt at collecting a ‘sample’, she gave birth.
After leaving with blood on her leg a nurse – who had earlier heard grunting coming from the toilet – entered and found the new-born blue in the face in the trash can.
Court reports suggested that in the months leading up to the birth she hid the pregnancy from her boyfriend by telling him she had ovarian cancer, and the medication was making her stomach swell.
Ritchey, is jailed on $50,000 bail for investigation of attempted murder and child abandonment.
Her attorney, Patrick O’Connor, said Friday it’s too early in the case to comment.
Ritchey’ boyfriend Tristan Williamson, said she told him she had cancer and couldn’t have children.
Speaking to Komo news.com, he said: ‘I didn’t even know she was pregnant.
‘Obviously, I want to find out if the kid is mine.
‘And if it is, I’m going to go for custody for it.’
On her blog, Ritchey wrote about losing her first baby boy, Derek, in 2008.
She wrote: ‘At 6:32pm Monday July 21st, 2008 our baby boy Derek James Tilson was still born. 6:33pm Monday July 21st, 2008 he was pronounced dead.
‘Probably the hardest things I have ever heard in my life.’
In another entry she describes herself as someone who ‘loves random moments.She added: ‘Life isn’t always fair but I love mine. My three year old little girl brightens up my life.
‘She’s [sic] truely been a blessing from the hard roads of the past. I’m in love. His name is Michael. I’m so glad he came into my life.’
