When I first saw the headline, “Fantasia Confirms She’s Pregnant,” I did not hesitate to click on it.
From hearing the many rumors and blog stories about Fantasia Barrino, I knew the story was only going to get better and better.
The impulsive announcement came as Fantasia was performing for an apartment opening in Jacksonville, Fla. The former American Idol winner was delivering some of her songs when she felt compelled to share this information with her fans. Before she started to go into her next song, Fantasia confirmed she was pregnant and she did not have to hide it anymore.

However, once the news broke, everyone quickly began to criticize Fantasia.
But why?
Last year, Fantasia found herself in legal woes dealing with her alleged boyfriend Antwaun Cook whom she first met working in a T-Mobile store in Charlotte, N.C.
After news of the affair broke, Barrino later attempted suicide which was documented on her VH1 reality show, Fantasia For Real.
After we all thought her involvement was over with Cook, photos surfaced of the couple hanging out in Barbados. Amidst the drama maybe she did not leave him after all.
Many times the reception of respect is just the opposite because of the condemnations from society and the media. The mother does not receive much adoration.
Alicia Keys, Natalie Portman, Lauryn Hill and Britney Spears are some of our beloved entertainers who have given birth around drama. Now Fantasia can add her name to the list.

Even though the story will continue, we should begin asking ourselves, why are we so hard on these women?
I would never blatantly encourage broken homes or single parental households, but pregnancy happens. However, you would think during this day and age the snickers and snares would stop.

Anyone who has a baby without being married only highlights many issues about our changing culture.
Being married does not equal a better household.
Fantasia is not the first woman to have an affair with a married man and she will not be the last. Still, it takes two adults to conceive a child.
There is no excuse to shift all the blame towards her.
