What Happened: Matt Damon had some strong words at a Save Our Schools march in Washington, D.C.

Following his keynote address, Damon took offense to a reporter who contended that, as opposed to the environment faced by teachers in a tenure system, the lack of job security in acting functions as an incentive for hard work. Take a look at what went down.

What Happened: Ugandan and French scientists have discovered a fossil of a skull of a tree-climbing ape from about 20 million years ago in Uganda’s Karamoja region, the team said Tuesday.

Better than Fiction

Character: Peacock

Plot Line: A peacock is on the loose in New York City after escaping from the Central Park Zoo today.

The brightly plumaged bird broke free from its enclosure around 9 a.m. this morning before wandering towards the city’s Upper East Side.

The zoo, which has already had two other high profile escapees, including a pea hen and a cobra, says the peacock poses no danger to anyone.

Shame On You

Who: Edward T. Bachner

Where: Chicago

What Happened: Edward T. Bachner, 38, pleaded guilty Tuesday for posing as a doctor to buy a deadly neurotoxin that comes from sources including puffer fish, which he intended “to use as a weapon,” according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

Bachner was apparently scheming to kill his own wife with the poison. 

Bachner was arrested in 2008 following an investigation spearheaded by the FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force that culminated with special agents in biohazard suits raiding his Lake in the Hills home.

Where: Chicago

Who: Governor Pat Quinn

What Happened: Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a law that makes it easier for the children of immigrants ― legal or illegal ― to pay for college.

The Illinois DREAM Act, which passed the state Senate by a wide margin in May, creates a nine-person commission and a “DREAM Fund,” a privately funded account to hold donations for grants and scholarships.
