An idea spawned by yoga instructor and author Deirdre Summerbell is helping over 400 woman who endured tremendous trauma when 800,000 Rwandans were killed during the 1994 genocide.

At first, many women weren’t taken by the yoga spirit after a demonstration.

One student told Summerbell, “You know, that’s for children, and we have already reached old age. We are sick.” The woman was only 28.

Classes are held in Rwanda’s capital city of Kigali.
