If you’re a powerful woman, you might get called a bitch just because you’re decisive, have a vision and are independent. Sad but true, our world is a strange one: gender, sex and class determines power, which is usually always equated with masculinity.

In our society, in most patriarchal societies, masculinity is frowned upon in a woman. In all societies, a woman is nothing more than an object.

SO what do you do when you have a person who is powerful, is not a man and is of the female sex and gender? What can you do?

Nothing, really, except if you are a subject of the women in question here, obey and respect the jux.  

We wanted to take a look at some of the world’s most powerful women who deserve the title of King.

Whether it’s their impact on the environment or the economy, these women can make or break a nation. They create jobs, they feed us with culture, knowledge and creativity, they lift us up.

The leader of the pack is Mrs. Michelle Obama, our First Lady, who put young designers on the map just by wearing their clothes, ergo creating and fueling jobs. Photographers, writers, designers, cashiers, stylists, editors and bloggers, the publishing industry at large, are just some of the people Mrs. O has paid, in a round about way. Mrs. O also has the ears of hundreds of millions of women around the world, billions even.

Who: British National Tamara Mellon, Founder of Jimmy Choo Shoes

Why She’s King: Tamara is king because she has generated jobs in the fashion industry. As an envoy for the British government, Mellon finds and creates business opportunities for the UK and her brand.

Who: Oprah Winfrey

Why She is King: Oprah is king because of her reach. As a talk show host she reached hundreds of millions of people around the world, educating and introducing concepts and topics we ordinarily would not talk about: things like sexuality, spirituality and self image.

Oprah is also King because she can make or break a career, she employs a ridiculous amount of people in this country and in South Africa where her school is based; she funds scholarships and makes the dreams of thousands a reality.

Who: Angelina Jolie

Why She’s King: Jolie is king because when she speaks, governments listen. As a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations and one of Hollywood’s highest paid and in demand actress, Angelina’s compassion and actions to help the world be a better place is commendable. While someone of her ilk and stature would just take the money and run, Jolie has placed hers, and her time, in the hands of the voiceless and poor. She is this generation’s Audrey Hepburn.

Who: Cambodian National Somaly Mam

Why She’s King: Mam is king because she heads a global foundation that rescues girls and women from sexual slavery. Governments and police tremble in her presence. Her fearlessness and determination to free enslaved women is courageous and dangerous but Mam is on mission and only death will stop her.

Who: Lady Gaga

Why She’s King: With 32 million Facebook friends, 10 million Twitter followers, and 1 billion-plus YouTube views, Gaga rules social media.

Who: Beyonce

Why She’s King: Because she influences millions of young people. Because she’s Kinged most of the important fashion magazines published this year.

Who: Anna Wintour

Why She’s King: Wintour is King because she rules the fashion world. She’s the Margaret Thatcher of Fashion. She can make or break the career of a designer, she and her staff determines, months in advance, what millions of people, including you, will be wearing.
