Plot Line: Jimmy McMillan, the man who ran for governor because the “Rent is Too Damn High” claims he’s being kicked out of his Manhattan apartment, because the rent is too damn low!
McMillan says he pays $872.96 for a rent-controlled ground-floor apartment on St. Marks Place in the East Village ― which he’s had since the late-1970s, when the rent was around $275.

Who: Employers
What Happened: Economists forecast that employers added only 117,000 jobs last month and that the unemployment rate was unchanged at 9.1 percent, according to a survey by FactSet.

Hero of the Day
Who: Quera Pruitt
What Happened: A Minnesota student who claims she was left emotionally scarred by a racially-charged homecoming theme is taking her high school to court.
Quera Pruitt claims in her lawsuit that her school’s ‘Wigger Day’ caused intense depression. Quera Pruitt, who graduated from Red Wing High School in 2010, is listed as a plaintiff in a class action lawsuit filed against the district.
The lawsuit says Sept. 30, 2009, was originally designated as ‘Tropical Day’ as part of the school’s homecoming celebration.

What Happened: New tax data from the Internal Revenue service shows that in 2009, incomes fell, unemployment claims rose, and the U.S. economy shed nearly two million taxpayers.
And of the 235,413 taxpayers who earned $1 million or more in 2009, 1,470 of them paid no taxes.

What Happened: The flashpoint Syrian city of Hama endured a fifth day under military siege Thursday, with a resident saying people were being “slaughtered like sheep” in the streets and families were burying their dead in home gardens or roadsides, rather than risk a trip to a cemetery.

What Happened: The Westboro Baptist Church, a radical religious group from Kansas, announced in a press release that it intends to picket the funerals of the victims of the Norway massacre. “Norway must repent or perish,” the document reads. “WBC will picket at the funerals of the Norway dead to warn the living: they died for your sins.”
