Eddie Murphy has confirmed it. He will be hosting the 2012 Oscars, set to be produced by Bret Ratner, the director of the comedian and actor’s latest film Tower Heist.

VIDEOS: The Best & Worst Michael Jackson Jokes!

With that in mind, we took a stroll down memory lane to find Eddie’s finest moments on the stand-up circuit, TV and movies.

What we discovered was a treasure trove of Eddie at his finest. Can he deliver the same chuckles at the Oscars? Can anyone, really?

We’re riding with Murphy even though he’s scaled back his crazy, becoming Edward Murphy, Esquire.

We would be lying, however, if we didn’t moan about how much we missed the man who gave us Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood, Buckwheat and Gumby. His turn in the 1984 film Trading Places and the first Beverly Hills Cop? Classic, Queens, New York Brilliance! Shrek? Meh. He was aaight.

Murphy’s stand-up films, Raw and Delirious, OMG! People used to cut school and watch those on Beta Max! We know some people who still tell the genitally gifted Dexter jokes. Plus, no other comedian wore tight colored leather outfits the way Murphy does!

After the break, Mr. Murphy at this best. (Gawd, we hope he don’t bomb!)
