Last night, a vigil was held in his honor at Occupy Oakland’s original encampment, Oscar Grant Park. Many demonstrators held up signs in support of the injured Iraq war veteran.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan told reporters on Thursday that she vowed to hold the police accountable and said that she would “personally monitor” the investigation into the incident she went on to say that she will aloow the Occupy protesters to stay.

Many are calling for Quan’s resignation, including Current TV’s Keith Olbermann.

Doctors are still expecting to perform surgery on Olsen to relieve the swelling in his brain. His roommate, Keith Shannon first reported the progress in an email saying:

“The neurosurgeons have decided he needs surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain and it will happen in a day or two. Scott’s parents should be arriving at the hospital any moment now.”

Olsen’s injuries, which were caught on video and posted to YouTube, caused public outrage after it went viral.
