Taylor Swift was the golden girl last night at the American Music Awards.

Taylor swiftly snatched up three awards, including the most coveted of categories: Artist of the Year. The country singer beat out Adele, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and Katy Perry, who were also in the running for the big win.

In addition to Artist of the Year, Taylor had her hands full carrying home every single award she was nominated for.

This is the second time Taylor has been named Artist of the Year at the AMAs, the first being in 2009.

Check out our exclusive interview with Taylor moments after her win!

You looked completely shocked when you won. What does it mean to win CMA Entertainer of the Year and now Artist of the Year and to be singing country music at an all genre awards show?

I’ve just been so shocked and stunned and absolutely out of my mind happy about this. The fact that the fans have been there for me more and more each year, it just blows my mind. To win Entertainer of the Year at the CMAs was just absolutely one of the most amazing things that has ever happened to me and then here a few weeks later, is another one of the most amazing things that has ever happened to me. I can’t even tell you how much I am loving this fall season so far!

Obviously you’ve gone to a lot of awards shows. Do you have any pre-awards show rituals that you do to calm your nerves?

It depends on if I am performing, because a lot of the times there is a rehearsal that day. But with this awards show we are actually taking a red eye flight to New York because we are finishing the tour tomorrow at Madison Square Garden. We have a show tomorrow night and my whole crew is on the East Coast.

For me it is just about trying to pick something to wear that is always a little different than what we have done, but also something very comfortable that you can have fun in and dance in. That was my favorite thing about tonight, it was a really fun night.

You’re such an inspiration to a lot of young girls. What advice would you give to a young girl who wanted to become a musician like you?

I think the advice that I would give is see your hero and get inspiration from all your heroes, but try to be something completely different from your heroes. For me, writing my own songs was a way to create what I wanted to create and music about my life. It kind of became a diary put to music every time I put out a new record. I would also say learn an instrument because it just makes everything easier. If you are going to go play out, it just helps if you’ve got your own guitar and you can accompany yourself.
