Boylan won the annual competition, set in the small English town of Santon Bridge, Cumbria, last week. It’s the seventh time the nuclear power plant worker has taken the top prize where competitors from the village and, much to the chagrin of its citizens, neighboring towns and beyond, get together at the local pub to spin yarns from their imagination-for prizes and fame.
This has been happening for 200 years. Mr. Boylan is only 46.
So how did Boylan win over the judges? What tall tale did he tell? Oh, something about receiving a peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich from Prince Charles.
