Singer and licensed saucier Kelis is featured in Issue One of noted photographer, and publisher, Rankin’s The Hunger magazine.

STORY: Kelis & Knight Y Gab It Up In LA

The issue hit newsstands a few weeks ago and is steadily drawing attention because of its photography, presentation and manifesto.

The Hunger is obese! It’s as thick as an old school phone book or a September issue of Vogue.

Good thing it’s bi-annual otherwise we’ll have to cancel our gym membership!

We love Kelis’s story in this premiere issue because the photography and clothes are beautiful. The play with light, shadows, fabric and dichotomy of textures, hard vs. soft, light vs. dark, most of which is played out by Keli’s complexion, ornamentation, (note her piercing) and mood, lends the editorial credence.

She was photographed in L.A. by Rankin, and it’s a far cry from the fanstastical images we’ve seen of the mother of one over the year.

These are portraits disguised as fashion. Kudos to photographer Rankin; there’s real connection in this shoot!
