Bullets ripped through a living room window, hitting the boy, along with a 36-year-old man in the home early Sunday.

University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital spokeswoman Lorna Wong said the child is still in the pediatric intensive care unit.

The shooting was reported around 12:15 a.m. at a small single-story house in the 1000 block of Durbin Street, where a holiday gathering had been under way, said Gary Police Cpl. Gabrielle King.

According to King, officers found the child in a room, shot in the head. He’d been playing a game at the time of the attack.

“He was totally innocent,” said King of the child. “He was just trying to have some fun.”

Bullets also made their way to the kitchen where a 36-year-old man was shot in the groin, said King.

The child was initially taken to a local hospital, but later transferred to Comer.

The man was taken to an unidentified hospital in Gary, where his condition had stabilized, said King.

No arrests have been made.

King said police “need all the help they can get’’ and said anyone with information should contact police Det. Alex Jones at 219-881-7477.
