Christian Louboutin is known worldwide for his shoe designs. His red bottom heels have become a staple amongst celebrities, fashionistas and socialites alike and have helped him become a household name in many circles.

Louboutin’s ware are so sought after, they’ve afforded him a private estate in the desert near the Egyptian city of Aswân, not far from the banks of the Nile.

In an interview with ELLE Decor, Louboutin showed off his Egyptian digs where he spends time designing his new collections, as well as practice Yoga.

The rooms of his estate are decorated with pieces Louboutin has collected on his travels: Uzbek embroidered fabrics, Moroccan rugs, handmade furniture from Cameroon are some of its staples. The waxed terra-cotta floors invite barefoot living. Still, the heart of the home is the open-air courtyard, with a fireplace that blazes through the cool desert evenings.

Among so many traditional furnishings, one piece is a reminder that we’re in the 21st century: the ultra-modern telescope on the roof, trained on the stars.
