The most heartbreaking story of 2012 so far comes after a 13-year-old suburban Illinois girl wrapped her newborn bloody baby in jeans and left it in an outdoor trash can in Country Club Hills, south of Chicago.

The newborn baby boy was taken to nearby Advocate South Suburban Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The young mother told police that she didn’t know she was pregnant and because she’s a minor, her name has not been released.
When the baby was found it weighed only 4 pounds and 2 ounces. Newborns generally tend to weigh between six and eight pounds.
Found in the garbage around 7pm, the boy had to fend for himself through a very cold and snowy New Year’s Day.
Police are considering this death an investigation until they learn the baby’s cause of death from the Medical Examiner.
After they get the autopsy results police are likely to determine whether to pursue charges in the case.
