Artists, religious leaders, Occupy Wall Street activists and other prominent figures gathered outside the Riverside Church, the location of Dr. Martin Luther King’s historic 1967 “Beyond Vietnam” speech in New York City last night to honor the memory of the slain civil rights leader.

A candlelight vigil in honor of Dr.King was held inside the church, as hundreds gathered to convey King’s message of peace, justice, and equality for all, regardless of race or economic class.

Musical performances by Patti Smith, Steve Earle, Stephan Said, and Kozza Olantunji Babumba excited the crowd, while speakers Dr. Benjamin Chavis, Yoko Ono, Russell Simmons, Reverend Stephen H. Phelps, Daisy Kahn and Norman Siegel reminded everyone of Dr. King’s dream.

It was an amazing night as Dr. King would have been celebrating his 83rd birthday. Take a look at the scene inside the Riverside Church.
