Weeks after we first heard Common’s scathing “Stay Schemin'” diss towards Drake, their beef is still the story on everyone’s tongue.

BURY DA BEEF: Common Says Drake Spat Is Over Hip-Hop – Not Serena!

So when Common was on Hot 107.9 Philly yesterday, of course the lyrical spat came up. It seems like Common actually tried to defuse things a little bit, even though he’s been seen as the aggressor.

TRIBE HAS SPOKEN: Birdman Supports Drake With His Life Over Common Beef

Common stuck to his story of the original song, “Sweet,” which is on The Dreamer, The Believer album, not being a diss song. He says this:

“The song ‘Sweet,’ he could probably look at certain things about it and say, ‘Man, I may sound like that. It may fit me or it may not.’ It’s up to that person to say I’m going to address it or not. I never was like ‘Yo, this is about Drake.’ That’s not what I was feeling and if it was about him I would have said it.”

When asked about the future of the beef, Common’s thinks that it will all soon die out.

“Yeah, I believe so. Right now for me it’s just fun. I’m not taking this too seriously. It’s like you said some things to me and I’m going to let you know what it is.”

Which is probably good news.

In another lighter note, they asked Common if Serena Williams, Chelsea Handler and Kerry Washington were all drowning on a boat, who would he save. Of course he said Serena.

Which makes us wonder, again: is all of this beefing really just about Serena?
