It seems as though adult trends are being done at earlier and earlier ages.

Rapper 50 Cent recently tweeted out a photo of Floyd Mayweather’s 13-year-old son, who was covered in new tattoos. Apparently, 50 had taken him to go get one at 2:30 a.m. on a school night, which seemed to piss off Papa Bear Floyd.

Whether the tattoos were real or not, it definitely raises some controversy behind the issue of whether or not kids should be allowed to get tatted up at a young age.

Some people get a tatoo because it’s cool and what everyone else is doing. Some people do it to represent a person they love. Some people do it to add some flavor to their skin.

Whatever the reason may be, it’s something that deserves long thought into whether that tattoo should be inked onto a person, considering it’s permanent.

Something tells me a person like Gucci Mane should have thought his ice cream tattoo idea through a little bit more. One can only imagine what he would look like at 80 years old with an ice cream cone on his face!

So what does that mean for kids who are underage? There’s definitely a reason why the legal age without adult permission is 18. Even if a parent or guardian lets a kid get a tattoo, there’s a good chance they won’t want it in 5 years, or even 2.

Think about kids’ attention spans! When I was 14 I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast, and by age 17 I was convinced I could be a DJ. Now, at almost 21, I’m off the pathway of both those things. I know that if I had gotten a tattoo of something I liked on me at the age of 13, I would probably dislike it and regret it by 15. But hey, maybe that’s just me.

At that young of an age, a kid is being influenced by the world around them more than ever. They’re vulnerable. Imagine if the legal age to get a tattoo really was 13?

Do you know how many teens would be running around with a tattoo that their friends’ pressured them into getting? Not that that doesn’t happen now with adults, but it’s just much more likely with kids who don’t have the most rational mindsets.

If it’s something that will always be sentimental to them, that’s different. But since there are 15-year-olds convincing themselves that getting something like “racks on racks on racks” tattooed on their chest is a good idea because it’s a line in their favorite song of that year, something’s definitely gotta give.

Getting a tattoo at a certain age is definitely a controversial issue, but I believe the age limits are there for more than the reason that it can be painful.

Even though there are rules in this world that need to be fought, there are some that people just have to trust are a smart idea.
