Leslie Carter was battling an addiction to prescription drugs in the days leading up to her death and now family members believe she died as a result of an overdose.

Sources close to the “House of Carters” reality star tell TMZ … the 25-year-old sister of Nick Carter had recently moved from Canada to Upstate New York to live with family members while she attempted to kick her addiction. 

We’re told family members had attempted to rid the home of any prescription medication — including Xanax —  and were hopeful Leslie was on the road to recovery.

Aspiring singer Leslie Carter, the sister of Nick and Aaron Carter, died in upstate New York, according to a spokesperson for the Carter family. She was only 25 years old.

In a statement given to Access Hollywood, the Carter family said:

“Our family is grieving right now and it’s a private matter. We are deeply saddened for the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and granddaughter, Leslie Carter. We request the utmost privacy during this difficult time.”

She died earlier in the day on Tuesday in upstate New York. No further details on Leslie’s death were immediately available.

In 2008, she married her husband Mike.

In July 2010, Leslie reportedly announced on her Twitter page that she was pregnant with her first child. Leslie reportedly gave birth to daughter Alyssa Jane Ashton on April 1, 2011.

In 1999, Leslie reportedly signed a record deal with Dreamworks Records and began working on a debut album. However, the album was never released.

Our hearts go out to the Carter family. Rest in Peace Leslie.
