Rooney Mara is the girl with the Giants tattoo. OK, not figuratively, but The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star does have ties to the team that runs blood deep.

Last night as the Giants celebrated their Super Bowl win, a sheepish Mara dressed in all black contained her excitement, even thought the win meant big things for the Mara family. No, Rooney isn’t married to a Giants player, but her family roots are deeply rooted in the football community.

Rooney is the great-granddaughter of Art Rooney Sr. and Tim Mara, respectively the founders of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

But Rooney’s love for football wasn’t always there.

While on “Letterman” late last year, the daughter of Kathleen Rooney Mara and Giants VP of Player Evaluation Chris Mara, recalled having to wear her “itchy” church clothes to Sunday football games and resenting the game as a result.

A lot has changed for Rooney as an adult, the actress hasn’t followed in the football ownership footsteps of her family, but one thing that she has owned is her look on every red carpet. Rooney has come a long way from the girl in church clothing at the Sunday Giants games.

While on a world tour to promote her movie this winter, Rooney was effortlessly flawless on every single red carpet, a feat that even stars raised among the Hollywood glam can’t claim.

Take a look at some of Rooney’s best red carpet looks in the gallery above, and just a fun tidbit of information, Rooney’s great-grandfather Tim Mara and Billy Gibson were awarded the New York Giants franchise by the nascent NFL in 1925 for $500.

Talk about a bargain!
