As news broke yesterday, February 11 that Whitney Houston had tragically passed away, all of Hollywood went into mourning, but the news hit no one harder than music exec and Whitney’s longtime friend, Clive Davis.

Clive discovered Whitney during a singing gig in an NYC club back in 1983. A music exec at Arista records, her powerful voice caught his ear and he signed her to a record deal on the spot.

Since 1983, Clive and Whitney became inseparable, even has her life took off in many different directions. His annual Pre-Grammy party was one event where the two would show up arm-in-arm without fail. It is where he presented Whitney’s talent to the world for the first time almost 30 years ago.

Last night, after taking some time with friends and family, Clive made his way to the Beverly Hilton hotel where his party was taking place, also the site where Whitney’s body was found.

When Clive arrived to the hotel, he was greeted by Alicia Keys, whom he also discovered, and the two, clearly emotional, consoled one another before heading inside.

Clive was said to be devastated, understandably, and though rumors came about that his Pre-Grammy party would be cancelled, he decided to go on with it, telling partygoers “Whitney would have asked that the music go on. And her family said the show should go on.”
