Tommy Hilfiger has long been known for his ability to put a unique twist on preppy basics, and he displayed this yesterday at the Armory during New York Fashion Week.
The fashion designer took preppy to a new height by adding rich colors, patent fabrics and mod shapes for his Fall/ Winter 2012 Women’s collection.

The dim lit Armory was decked out in a setting reminiscent of an Ivy League court yard. Tommy opted out of the elevated runway and completed the Ivy League look with a burgundy pathway.
As for the fashions running down the runway, Tommy cites his inspiration as “Town and Country” based off of women who may frequent Park Avenue during the week and retreat to the country living of Connecticut when Friday falls.

Tommy’s signature pea coats and trenches were re-invented in bonded leather, printed sherling and a 60s military influence.
The front row featured some notable faces including a frequent wearer of demure prep, Uma Thurman and rock royalty turned models Chelsea Tyler and Mia Tyler.
Tommy’s daughter was also front row watching her dad take preppy to a new level.
