Daisy Torres, 27, a pregnant mother from Bushwick, Brooklyn is lucky to be alive after her husband, Juan Torres Collazo, 62, shot her in the chest outside Public School 384 on Friday.

Torres spoke with the NY Daily News to retell her terrifying story and the moment she thought she was going to die.

Torres told the NYDN:

“I fought for my life. He came out of nowhere and pointed the gun at my head. I kept trying to get the gun away from my head.”

Torres was picking up their 5-year-old daughter when Collazo confronted her with a .22-caliber pistol.

Torres, who is four months pregnant, met Collazo about six years ago in her native Dominican Republic.

When they moved to NYC a year later, Collazo became abusive; which resulted in a restraining order being filed.

On the afternoon of the shooting Torres recalls Collazo telling her:

“He kept saying ‘I’m going to kill you. I threw him to the ground. He shot twice. He was determined to shoot me in the head.”

Hector Reyes, her current boyfriend and the father of her unborn child, heard her cries for help.

“I jumped out of the car and tackled him,” Reyes said. “He shot twice, and once more once we had him on the ground.”

Two young men witnessed the struggle and ran to help, he said, holding Collazo down until cops came.

The unborn baby was unharmed, but the bullet remains stuck under her breast. An operation is scheduled in two weeks to remove it.

Collazo is being charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal contempt for breaking the order of protection.

Torres remains scared for her life, fearing that Collazo will return to finish the job:

“I’m afraid he will leave jail one day and finish what he started, I feel lucky I’m alive and that my baby is okay.”

Thankfully Torres is alive today and her baby didn’t wasn’t hurt.
