“You need to make a commitment, and once you make it, then life will give you some answers.”

~ Les Brown

As I reflect on my life working in the public service sector for over ten years, I’ve begun to accept the fact that it’s now time for me to commit to making some of my own personal dreams come true.

The truth is that working for the betterment of our humanity has always been a selfish and unselfish calling for me.

The feeling that I get from working on successful grassroots campaigns is indescribable and the warmth that I feel when I’m able to help others is what makes life truly worth living.

As such, I learned that the greatest gift that I could give to the world is to be in service to others.

With that being said, I’ve also come to accept that the best way that any of us could help improve the world is by having the courage and stamina to pursue our own passions.

All of us are born with gifts that we’re responsible for sharing with the world and the greatest crime that we regularly inflict on ourselves is denying ourselves the possibility of achieving them.

Although we are bombarded with images and reminders of why we can’t pursue our dreams, the truth is that you, we, I, can truly do anything that we set our hearts and minds to.

History is filled with examples of people proving time and time again that the only person separating us from accomplishing our greatest hopes and dreams is ourselves.

And the most successful among us have always proven that the moment we start believing in the impossible is the exact moment that the impossible becomes real.

Whether it was school integration or the courage to openly accept one’s own sexuality, courage has always been a prerequisite for any transformative change.

So as I continue to reflect on my personal contributions to the world, I would like to announce that I’m finally embracing my true purpose in life.

As an artist, an activist, a social entrepreneur, a father, a husband, a son and a friend, I can no longer tell others to start chasing their dreams if I myself don’t fully pursue my own.

So while I tweet and Facebook inspirational quotes everyday, I want you to know that the truth of the matter is that I’m just as scared as anybody else.

I still think about how to financially support my family once I transition from a stable, good paying job to a new career of higher risks yet greater reward.

And I still grapple with the thought that I may be getting too old to pursue my own personal dreams.

However, in the end, I know somewhere deep down inside of my soul that the only way that I could ever answer these questions is if I stop asking them and commit to trying.

Whether it’s one small step or a drastic leap of faith, the fact is that a single step forward is progressing in the direction of your higher self that always wants you to succeed.

So today I commit to changing the world through my music and helping to make ShopShareLove.com into one of the most impactful companies in the world.

Today, I commit to turning off the rhetoric that tells me not to take creative chances because I won’t be able to afford health care or pay my bills if I pursue my dreams.

And today fear will no longer dictate my higher purpose, but instead, I choose to start my life all over again.

So as we embrace the energy of this new age, let’s hold hands together as we walk towards uncertainty and become the beautiful people that we’re meant to become.

Let’s support each other in overcoming our fears and achieving what many may say is impossible, but what we know deep down in our hearts is indeed possible.

And together let’s build a world where we all support and recognize the innate power in loving ourselves so much that we have no other choice but to start following our true paths and purposes.
