Tonight VH1 debuts Styled By June, a new reality TV show starring one of the entertainment industry’s leading celebrity wardrobe stylists, June Ambrose. Don’t sleep on the fashion angle, there’s likely to be plenty of drama with diva attitudes, body insecurities and more. We can’t wait to see how Ms. Ambrose converts old school rapper Da Brat from her tough girl image to a modern, sexy woman.

June taped the show while prepping longtime client Jay-Z for his Throne tour and after completing her all-time career high styling gig of working wth Simon Cowell as head stylist for The X-Factor.

Lucky for us, June talked to GG Style about the drama that comes with celebrity makeovers. With so much on her plate, its no wonder the stylista was given her own show. Check out our exclusive below.

Global Grind: What celebrities can we expect to appear in Styled By June?

June Ambrose: We shot seven episodes. There is Da Brat, Trina, Michelle Williams, Mischa Barton, Aubrey O’ Day, Jaleel White, and Shayna Milkler. Our first episode is with Mischa. We only shot seven episodes and I say only, but trust me seven wasn’t easy; there’s a lot that goes into it.

Give us a recap of what Styled By June is about?

I consider it to be a formatted docu-soap. It’s a taste by taste basis. Every episode focuses on a celebrity in need of re-branding, re-conditioning, emancipation and that’s willing to render themselves to me, allowing me to help them to re-enter the marketplace in a way that’s going to be impactful. It’s basically like an anecdote to what I’ve done over the last 18 years formatted to this show in a way that’s very organic.

There’s a method to my madness and every episode-there’s a three step plan. I’ve put three steps in place, beginning, middle and an end and you get to kind of really see and hear the artists’ voice and understand from a viewer’s perspective, “Oh its not that easy to just be relevant all the time” and it takes a lot. It’s a dedicated approach to really helping to emit someone.

The biggest buzz seems to be on Da Brat. Why do you think that is so?

Is that what you are hearing on the streets? No one has really heard from her since she got in the penitentiary, really. Her episode was enjoyable for me, also very challenging because she is a different person, but she’s also a misunderstood individual. This really lets people kind of see her, when someone’s image has been painted and painted in a way that they could be written off.

90’s rapper, super talented girl, super sweetheart, so she’s friends with Mariah Carey for a reason. There’s so many sides of her and I think the episode we did with her you really see the vulnerable side in her that you wouldn’t think that you would see because visually she’s so hard. She’s tough and you see a side that’s just mind blowing. You fall in love with her all over again. You want to start singing her old songs and wait for the new records to drop. That’s what that episode leaves you feeling. A sense of triumph. For me, there has to be a resolution and I think we got to a really good place. I drove her nuts though.  I didn’t mention Trina. That was another compelling episode that is going to be the week after.

Was Trina just as challenging as working with Da Brat?

Completely different experience. I think her episode is a whole other jarring moment because it’s about exploitation and degradation. The walls come down in that episode and you’re just like “Whoa!” when you least expect it. It’s about the emancipation. It’s about the moving forward, more so than reflecting backwards. We deal with what’s broken and then we fix it.
