A quick lesson for record label heads out there: don’t try to tell Santigold what to do. There will be consequences.

MUSIC: Santigold “Disparate Youth”
While creating her sophomore album, Master Of My Make-Believe, the suits at the record label felt she needed some cross-over hits on the album, so they suggested that she listen to LMFAO for inspiration.

Only problem: Santigold can’t stand LMFAO.

The singer told NME in this week’s edition:

“I hate LMFAO and David Guetta. (When writing the album) the label were like, ‘where are the hits?’

DETAILS: Santigold & Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt To Collaborate?!

Her label, Atlantic Records, even suggested that instead of writing her own tracks she get help from known hit makers like Stargate and RedOne.

As for her issues with LMFAO, this isn’t the first time the singer sent shots at the group. During a interview with Pitchfork, Santigold had this to say:

“I watched a music awards show last year and started crying afterwards. I just felt really sad that people go along with stupid wack shit. I’m sorry, but LMFAO performed at the Super Bowl? Aren’t they a joke band? That type of shit makes me cry. I’m like, “Really?”

Even with all the troubles — the singer admits she had writer’s block for some time — her sophomore album Master Of My Make Believe is expected to drop on April 24th.
