Florida state attorney Norm Wolfinger is denying claims from the Martin family’s lawyer Benjamin Crump.

Crump stated that Wolfinger interfered with the police investigation of the Trayvon Martin incident.

Trayvon Martin was brutally murdered by a neighborhood watchman identified as George Zimmerman, on grounds of self-defense.

Crump sent a letter to the U.S. Justice Department, asking them to look into Wolfinger’s role in preventing an officer from arresting Zimmerman on the night he murdered Trayvon.

According to the National Post, Wolfinger wants the Department of Justice to disregard the letter, calling the claims made by Crump and his legal team “outright lies.” He went on further saying:

“I am outraged by the outright lies contained in the letter by Benjamin Crump. I encourage the Justice Department to investigate and document that no such meeting or communication occurred.”

Wolfinger removed himself as prosecutor from the case over a week ago, claiming that he hoped it would “tone down the rhetoric.”

His spokeswoman Lynne Bumpus-Hooper expanded on the accusations made saying:

“Police officers can make an arrest at virtually any dadgum point they feel they have enough probable cause to make an arrest. They do not need our permission and they do not seek our permission.”

The fight for justice for Trayvon continues.
