At an arraignment earlier this morning, Jake England, 19, and his friend and accomplice Alvin Watts, 32, were both being held on suspicion of three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of shooting with the intent to kill and one count of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. They will be formally charged at a later date.

Neither man had an attorney present at the arraignment, but the judge set an April 16 court date.

England and Watts went on a shooting spree, gunning down five black victims on the second anniversary of his father’s death at the hands of an African American.

Police describe the suspects as white and the victims as black, but can’t yet say if the attacks were racially motivated. Police are examining whether England was trying to avenge the death of his father, who was killed two years ago.  A judge set their bond at $9.16 million apiece.
