Before leaving Cartagena, Colombia, it was revealed that 11 Secret Service agents were sent home after they had hired prostitutes at a Cartagena hotel.

The Secret Service agents at the center of the allegations had stayed at Cartagena’s five-star Hotel Caribe. The 11 employees in question were special agents and Uniformed Division Officers that were not assigned directly to protect Obama.

Either way, the damage has been done. Fox News and the right wing will surely have a field day with this latest scandal.

Not only did the Secret Service indulge themselves in questionable behavior, but now an investigation is under way to determine what really happened.

It’s being reported that one of the agents did not want to pay one of the prostitutes, which led to her and the hotel calling the police.

Speaking on the matter, President Obama said:

“I expect that investigation to be thorough, and I expect it to be rigorous. If it turns out that some of the allegations that have been made in the press are confirmed, then of course I’ll be angry. … We are representing the people of the United States, and when we travel to another country, I expect us to observe the highest standards.

These men and women perform extraordinary service on a day-to-day basis protecting me, my family, U.S. officials. They do very hard work under stressful circumstances and almost invariably do an outstanding job. So I’m very grateful.”

Living lives like monks, Secret Services agents do work under stressful circumstances and becoming the man or woman that has to take a bullet for the President can be nerve-racking.
