In the fourth day of testimony in the Jennifer Hudson family murder case, prosecutors will once again try to prove that William Balfour killed Hudson’s brother, nephew and mother in a fit of jealous rage.

STORY: Too Painful! Prosecutors Show Photos Of Jennifer Hudson’s Slain Nephew

Prosecutors didn’t announce who they’ll call to the witness stand, but said they will call for Balfour’s former girlfriend, Shonta Cathey, to testify as she was asked by Balfour to back up his false alibi on the day of the killings.

Balfour was estranged from his wife, Hudson’s sister Julia, at the time of the 2008 killings. Balfour has pleaded not guilty to murdering Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew.

As for Hudson, the thought of looking at her nephew’s body was too much; she spent much of the morning outside the courtroom and only entered the room after the photos were shown.

Julia testified on Monday that Balfour was so prone to jealousy, he even became angry when Julian kissed her.

“He’d say, ‘Get off my wife,'” she said.

As there were no surviving witnesses to the murders, prosecutors will introduce evidence in the next few days that includes cell phone records and security-camera footage that place Balfour in the area of the killings, since he denies he was there.

Another challenge for prosecutors will be tying Balfour to the alleged murder weapon, a silver and black .45-calibre handgun that sat on a stack of papers at the prosecution table in plain view of jurors.

Prosecutors believe Balfour went inside the three-story house around 9 a.m. on October 24, 2008, shot Hudson’s mother in the living room, then shot her brother, Jason Hudson, twice in the head as he was lying in bed.

Investigators allege Balfour then drove off in Jason’s sport utility vehicle with Julian inside, and later shot the boy in the head as he hid behind the front seat.

If convicted of at least two of the murder counts, Balfour would face a mandatory life sentence.
