The hardest record to rock the dance floors this week was the new Wiz Khalifa “Work Hard, Play Hard.” The energy in this record so amazing. Producers Stargate and Benny Blanco tickle your eardrum with their hard-hitting bass riffs. Khalifa’s wordplay paints a picture of his successful rise. The general message in this track is what could easily take this record to anthem status. It’s simple: “Work Hard, Play Hard.”

Flo Rida is the King of the charts, and it doesn’t look like he is relinquishing that position anytime soon. His latest record made the Top 40 rounds at radio, as well as impacted the blogosphere. The production genius of DJ Frank E is behind this anatomy of a hit record. Say what you want about Rida’s pop appeal, but he is delivering great feel-good music to masses, similar to the same way Subway makes their sandwiches — fresh! Besides talk is cheap, and a conversation with Flo Rida is worth at least five figures.

Slaughterhouse is the dopest crew of MCs assembled in a very long time. Their recent Highline Ballroom show in NYC became legendary after the NYPD Gestapo crashed the party and arrested Joe Budden over outstanding traffic tickets (Yes, I’m serious). I don’t care who you are though, it’s going to be hard to do a performance behind these guys. Slaughterhouse’s live show is an epic display of lyricism over great music.  Their new record “My Life” arrived this week in time to heat up just before the summer sets in. SreetRunner and Sarom really delivered a next level track, and having Cee-Lo Green singing the hook is never a bad look.

There’s been a lot of new music circulating from Jadakiss which means an album isn’t far. But first he dropped a mixtape this week, Consignment, with the lead track “Poppin Tags.” It features Styles P, Wale and French Montana on the hook. This record is definitely D Boy anthem music for the hot summer blocks in any hood. Perhaps the most intriguing thing about all this recent Jada activity is his new look. He grew his hair out to show fans that his hairline is more official than a Steve Harvey-perfectly-manicured low Caesar.

There’s a really dope band called Electric Guest you should check out if you’re not up on them already. They’re working with new age hip-hop producer Danger Mouse on their debut release Mondo. This week the first song off the project, “Awake,” hit the blogs. “Awake” has a real funky but groovy feel to it, sort of like an updated spaced out 60’s track. The LA based Electric Guest is a duo who really don’t have a definitive style when it comes to their music. That is what makes them so cutting edge though. Listen, get familiar and enjoy.
