The breast-feeding mother from the now infamous TIME magazine cover says she intends to keep letting her 3-year-old son suckle her until he’s five.
STORY: WOW! TIME Magazine Covers A Mom Breastfeeding Her 3-Year-Old Son!
Visiting NBC’s Today Show Jamie Lynne Grumet, the 26-year-old mother from Los Angeles, says she won’t stop breast-feeding her son saying:
“I’m hoping our fourth year is probably going to be our final.”
The mother of two, who also breastfeeds her adopted five-year-old son named Samuel, appeared on the breakfast program with her son Aram.
Grumet acknowledged her attachment parenting methods have been deemed offensive by others but says:
“I understand some of the breastfeeding advocates are actually upset about this.” Adding “This isn’t how we breastfeed at home. It’s more of a cradling, nurturing situation [at home]. I understand what they’re [the advocates] saying.”
The cover reflects the inside story of how many mothers still subscribe to attachment parenting, which stands by three main tenets are extended breast-feeding, co-sleeping and “baby wearing,” in which infants are physically attached to their parents by slings.
