Female emcees like Nitty Scott, MC, Iggy Azalea and Rye Rye have been taking center stage in the rap game recently. Their skilled word play and innovative musical stylings have garnered them well-deserved props in a male-saturated industry.

Another one of these artists to add to your playlist is Raven Sorvino. You may have not heard of this indie spitter yet, but you will very soon.

Raven Sorvino was born Anna Maria Pink and spent her youth between California and Texas. While attending North Hollywood High School, she discovered her talent for rhyming. She honed her skills listening to some of the genre’s most prolific talents such as MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Notorious BIG and Foxy Brown.

MC Lyte Drops Knowledge On What’s NOT Hip-Hop

Throughout her career, Raven has peaked the interest of many industry heavyweights, including Dr. Dre, P. Diddy and Randy Jackson. Yet, several unfortunate instances of label and management reshuffling have prevented Sorvino from having the mainstream shine she rightly deserves.

Currently, Raven Sorvino has been working with the L.A.-based crew Language Artz and has been taking the blog world by storm.

Her Paper Girl EP, now for sale on iTunes, spotlights Raven’s natural gift for delivering lyrics with substance, wit and elegance with beautiful and smooth production. The EP has its share of hot club songs like “Poppin All Night” and “Talkin My Sh*t,” which are balanced with chilled out jams like “Leimert Park Playa.”

Raven is a part of an entire legion of artists utilizing Internet platforms to promote and distribute their music without major label affiliation. Stream her dope Paper Girl album below!
