According to the Huffington Post:

“We’ve been asked to get involved,” Kim Brunell, a spokeswoman for the FBI’s Little Rock office, told The Huffington Post on Thursday. The bureau’s ballistics experts will join the probe, she said.

Carter was stopped by Jonesboro police on the night of July 28th and according to the police report, officers Ron Marsh and Keith Baggett were nowhere near the vehicle when the gun was fired.

The two officers said that they heard a loud thump coming from the vehicle and when they opened the rear passenger side door, they found Carter in a “sitting position slumped forward with his head in his lap.”

Officer Marsh said there was a large amount of blood on Carter’s shirt, pants, seat and floor. He also said Carter’s hands were still cuffed behind his back. A small caliber handgun was reportedly found beside him.

Both Marsh and Baggett are on paid administrative leave.

Yesterday, Jonesboro Police Chief Michael Yates revealed more details about the ongoing investigation into Chavis’ death. He appeared on The Jane Velez Mitchell Show and said the situation was “bizarre” and “defies logic at first glance.”

According to Yates, the investigation is ongoing, and public outcry demands answers. Two Justice for Chavis Carter Facebook pages have been set up.

Friends and supporters have left condolences and a vigil is set for Chavis on Monday night.
