The biggest political debate of the year is not over distribution of power, representation of the people by the government, or economic exploitation. It is about a fast food restaurant’s view on gay marriage. Essentially, something that affects absolutely nobody.

LIST: The REAL Beef With Chick-Fil-A

Now we have a Papa John’s telling people to shoot down a bill that essentially creates a major change in the economic system, because it will add a couple of cents to their pizza. Not the system the country was founded on, but the system the old one evolved into. What Obamacare represents is the idea that socialism and capitalism can coexist within the same economic system.

That’s a very scary idea to those who control wealth in America. It’s an extremely important political debate that needs to take place in this country and very soon. Well, why are chicken shacks and pizza franchises becoming the main platform for political debate?

We’ve become a fast food nation: fast food, fast food shopping, fast food news, so why shouldn’t our politics be in fast food form as well? Why is it like this?

America is now a neo-feudalistic society masquerading as a capitalist society. In a feudalist society, a person is born in a system in which their lifestyle is determined by luck. Whatever class you were born into, was typically where you were going to stay. It was theoretically possible that you would be able to move up the social economic ladder, but it was very unlikely, and occurred very rarely.

Fast-forward to America about two and a half centuries later and we live in the same system, the only difference is the illusion of chance is greater, and you have more options of how to live within the class we were born into. Contrary to popular belief, it’s extremely rare that people in America make it out of the economic class they were born into. About 10 percent make it from a lower tax bracket to a higher one.

Most of our aspirations are to reach the level of those at the very bottom of the top. We all want to become rich, when wealth is the real sign of prosperity. Jay-Z is rich. Sad to say, Jay-Z’s money is small compared to a man like Warren Buffet. Jay-Z can mess his money up within the next couple of years. Buffet cannot mess up his money. There is simply too much money.

It’s impossible, unless there is a complete economic paradigm shift in this country, which they ensure won’t happen by murdering those who propose ways that can effectively redistribute power i.e. Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, Huey P Newton etc. They will not lose their money or power because there is simply too much money at their disposal. It will take generations to mess that up.

That is the type of money, the .01 percent that controls the vast majority of this country. When I say control, I mean that in the most literal sense. Essentially if you are not a part of them, you are their slaves.

Slave in the sense that you are completely dependent on them and they control everything around you, including your assets, food, water, and representation through the use of various corporations. That’s one of the many reasons corporations have more rights than people.

In order to maintain that power they, as in the top .01 percent of this country, need the control to keep the majority of the population ignorant, separated, misinformed, and uninterested in matters that pertain to them. How do you do that?

You constantly bombard a population of people with information that has no significant relevance to how the world operates through sensationalizing bullshit, lying through the media, reporting significant events as trivial like Occupy Wall Street, and withholding information.

Information is the most valuable commodity on this planet. That’s why they say knowledge is power. If that’s true, America is this guy:

Sadly, just one generation ago there was a rise in social consciousness permeating the American social sphere. It has been replaced with stories of Kim Kardashian’s shoes, and people voicing their opposition to same sex marriage ironically, by devouring cock sandwiches.

If the people of this country don’t start creating and raising a voice soon, the average American lifestyle will get a lot worse. It has been for the past 30 years, so why would the trend change? Especially now when we have become as ignorant as ever, ironically in the time where information is most accessible.

Garvey Ashhurst is a young up and coming poet, songwriter, and blogger. He is the reason that the system is afraid of a black man in a library. His aim is not to be Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, or Ghandi, but he hopes to make them proud by keeping their ideals alive through his lifestyle. He hopes that one day young brothers will one day say I want to be the next him.
