If you’ve ever doubted that La La Anthony is anything less than superwoman, you’re wrong; her cape just isn’t visible.
Aside from juggling being a mother and wife, La La holds down her own career as a hostess, has her own reality television show, La La’s Full Court Life, and also has her own makeup line, Motives by La La.

With all of that on her plate, La still manages to be a present friend and a diligent businesswoman.
We caught up with the makeup enthusiast to talk about new additions to her line, and it’s clear that Kiyan may be her first baby, but Motives by La La is in close running as her second.

GlobalGrind: Let’s talk a little bit about “Motives For La La.”
La La: Every year we have two conventions where we launch a good amount of new products. The convention was just in Greensboro, North Carolina, and we launched a bunch of new products that are now available on the site. Everything is going so fast!
We launched new bronzer, new eye shadow colors, there are new lip colors and we did a whole nail polish collection. I brought pencils. It’s just a bunch of stuff. We’re really starting to expand the collection. I started really small, just to test out the marketing. Because the products did so well, it gave me an opportunity to expand now. We’re really happy about it.
What’s your favorite part of the process of making and selling makeup?
Just being involved, and really working hard to figure out what we think people are going to like, and what’s missing in the marketplace. I like that. It’s not just putting your name on something and having nothing to do with it. I get a hundred samples. I’m like, this is too ashy; this doesn’t look good on our skin … until it’s absolutely perfect.
That’s what I love. You feel like a scientist. You’re like, that’s not going to work, you have to do this, until you find the perfect blend of everything that actually does work.
Do you have a favorite product from the line?
Right now, out of the expanded collection, I love the mineral bronzing shimmer pattern. I love it because it could be used everywhere. You can use it on your eyes, on your cheeks, on your body; you could mix it with lotion, and do a whole body bling kind of thing. It’s my favorite because it has more than one use. Sometimes you just need Purell on your cheeks, you don’t even have to put any makeup on, or anything like that, and it’s going so fast, so they keep having to restock it … I think people are starting to see there’s so many different uses for it.
When you were going into the process, what’s one thing that has surprised you that’s difficult that you didn’t really think about?
Finding the right matches and the right colors that work, because it’s real easy to get the first thing, and say “that’s it,” and it’s not correct. Sometimes to hit it perfect, or as perfectly as you can, it takes a while. It could be a bit frustrating, because you know what you want, and it’s not coming back exactly how you want it, but with time and patience, and continuing to push, it definitely does.
