After two years, the Muslim community of Murfreesboro, Tenn. can finally rejoice after Ramadan’s month-long observance of fasting and sacrifice, as they can now occupy their new mosque this month.

According to the New York Times:
The community’s religion became a heated issue when residents at a public hearing angrily maintained that Islam was not a religion and that the mosque was an outpost in a plot to undermine the Constitution with Shariah law.
Their victory in opening the new mosque was happily paralleled by one in the voting booth in this month’s Congressional primaries. Lou Ann Zelenik, a Republican primary candidate who campaigned fiercely against the mosque and “the Islamization of our society,” was defeated by a wide margin.
Representative Diane Black, who prevailed on the Republican line, cynically raised questions about the mosque approval process, but at least acknowledged that freedom to worship is protected by the Constitution.
Religious freedom is one of the things we hold true in this country, and we are happy for the good people of Murfreesboro in the opening of their new mosque!
