Last night at the Democratic National Convention, former President Bill Clinton briefly touched on an issue that has plagued the Obama administration from the day Barack became president: racism.

Though he didn’t harp on the topic for long, Clinton made sure to mention that the unprecedented opposition and defiant obstructionism exemplified by some members of the Republican Party is fostered by a deep-seeded hate that goes beyond political discord. As he stated:
“Though I often disagree with Republicans, I actually never learned to hate them the way the far right that now controls their party seems to hate our president and a lot of other Democrats.
I — that — that would be impossible for me, because President Eisenhower sent federal troops to my home state to integrate Little Rock Central High School.”
The harsh criticism that both Hillary and Bill endured when they dominated the political forefront was motivated by their actions and/or right-wing bias. But despite the Republican scrutiny, Clinton could never actually hate his opponents. In contrast, the haul of blatant insolence and attacks on Obama shows that it’s not just about his initiatives, stance or policies, but rather who he is.
How crazy is it that for the first time in history there was a movement demanding that an US president publicly release his birth certificate to prove that he is a US citizen? And, on top of that, there was no cry for Obama’s 2008 presidential opponent Senator John McCain to release his certificate when he, in actuality, was born outside of the US in the Panama Canal Zone.
Here are a few other examples of the racist sentiment and undertones that the country’s first African American President has endured:
Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted “you lie” at the President while he was giving his 2009 State of the Union Address. That type of disrespect for the leader of the Free World is unmatched.

Likewise, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer was photographed shaking her finger in the President’s face. Again, we ask…where they do that at?

And time after time, former Republican presidential contender Newt Gingrich has called Mr. Obama “the greatest food stamp President in American history.” Really though?
Although they don’t represent the whole Republican Party, it’s time that Conservatives put their own members in check!
